The generation ship Shiva plays a unique role in the Parvati fleet: It has an unusual number of first-generation colonists in suspended animation, to be awoken in an emergency or when the fleet arrives at its destination.

Five generations into the trip, the investigator is awoken to solve a unique case: Another first-generation colonist, Nghiêm Tất Kiệt, was awoken and dismembered, their remains found inside a broken airlock.

Who would want to murder a man after such a long time?
